The Lavender Museum or the Art of True Lavender
In May 1991, Georges Lincelé, a specialist in AOP fine lavender, opened the first Musée de la Lavande in the heart of the Luberon, in Coustellet, to preserve the Art of True Provence Lavender. Set in a prestigious location, with its large stone Provencal mansion and beautiful Mediterranean garden of lavender and olive trees, this Museum boasts a rich collection of 346 items from the world of lavender growing, distillation and perfumery. All these fabulously preserved objects make for an experience full of discoveries, the watchword of which is the protection and promotion of local heritage and know-how: lavender from Provence.
Lavender-growing know-how in Provence
This botanical icon, the pride and joy of Provence since the 19th century, is one of the rarest and most precious flowers in the world. Today, the Musée de la Lavande has become a veritable institution committed to the preservation of lavender. It invites visitors to discover the special place of fine lavender in haute parfumerie and its major role in aromatherapy. The museum's museography and the passion of its guides and staff, who work with the Lincelé family, owners of the museum and producers and distillers since 1890 on the Le Château du Bois lavender-growing estate, ensure a visit appreciated by all lovers of this emblematic flower.
