In April 2024, AOC Ventoux joined forces with the Parc naturel régional du Mont Ventoux in the ambitious RESMAB program for 3 years!
What is RESMAB? RESMAB is a project designed to respond to the urgent challenges posed by climate change in the Mediterranean region. It focuses on UNESCO-designated biosphere reserves, areas recognized for their contribution and capacity to balance human activity and nature conservation. Seven biosphere reserves around the Mediterranean are organized as “living laboratories” to test and implement innovative adaptation and mitigation solutions in the areas of water, energy, food and ecosystems, in order to tackle climate change in this particularly sensitive region.
Funded by the PRIMA Foundation, which brings together research institutes, governmental and non-governmental agencies in the Mediterranean region, RESMAB is piloted by the Centre for Forest Science and Technology of Catalonia and implemented in seven Unesco biosphere reserves by :
- the Alto Bernesga Biosphere Reserve for Spain
- the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature for Jordan ;
- Veneto Regional Park of the Po Delta and Istituto Oikos for Italy ;
- the Public Institute of Park Skocjan Caves for Slovenia;
- the Agence Nationale pour le Développement des Oasis et des Zones d'Arganiers for Morocco;
- the Association pour la Protection du Jabal Moussa for Lebanon;
- the Parc Naturel Régional du Mont-Ventoux and AOC Ventoux for France.
In these areas, the project aims to increase food security and the sustainable management of water and energy resources, while preserving and improving biodiversity and ecosystem conservation. It also aims to improve and diversify economic models, and to pay particular attention to the role of women and disadvantaged groups in implementing these solutions.
To achieve its objectives, RES-MAB will capitalize on existing research and the experience of previous initiatives and projects, and will count on the active participation of stakeholders at all levels, from elected representatives to local residents and entrepreneurs.
In the Mont Ventoux Biosphere Reserve, this will involve :
1/ Coordinate a group of farmer-climate explorers who will benefit from exchanges of practices, training, visits and customized diagnostics over a 2-year period;
2/ Support the development of the local cereal-legume industry, both upstream (production, storage and sorting of grains, establishment of a fair and remunerative price) and downstream (innovation of a food range based on legumes, development of outlets with local bakers, biscuit-makers and pastry-makers);
3/ Raise awareness of climate impacts among local players, using projective maps.
The Parc and AOC Ventoux are calling on farmers who would like to join the agri-explorers collective at the start of 2025.
Don't hesitate to contact Marie Pons Ramells from the Park ([email protected]) for all types of agriculture, and Isabelle Fabre ([email protected]) from AOC Ventoux, for viticulture.
AOC Ventoux has therefore made a 3-year commitment to the Parc naturel régional du Mont-Ventoux to implement innovative solutions in this region, in line with the actions implemented in the Raison d'Etre of the appellation!
